General Information

The Department of Economics of Middle East Technical University and World Economic Research Institute (WERI) are jointly organizing the Second Workshop on Turkish Economy (WOTE) to be held in-person on October 3-4, 2024 at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Türkiye.

This Second Workshop on Turkish Economy (WOTE) is organized in memory of Güzin Erlat we lost on May 17, 2023.

Our workshop is open to papers covering theoretical and empirical studies in all areas of International Economics and Economic Policy. Subjects such as international trade policy, international finance, international economic institutions, regional economy, regional integration and open-economy macroeconomics will be visited. Other topics that may be covered include exchange rates and foreign exchange markets, current account balance, international capital movements, multinational companies and foreign direct investment, global financial crises, globalization, environment, sustainability, the effects of new technologies on the international economy, gender (women) and international trade and feminization of international trade.

Abstract Submission

Our workshop is open to papers covering theoretical and empirical studies in all areas of International Economics and Economic Policy. Subjects such as international trade policy, international finance, international economic institutions, regional economy, regional integration and open-economy macroeconomics will be visited. Other topics that may be covered include exchange rates and foreign exchange markets, current account balance, international capital movements, multinational companies and foreign direct investment, global financial crises, globalization, environment, sustainability, the effects of new technologies on the international economy, gender (women) and international trade and feminization of international trade.

An abstract or full paper should be submitted by e-mail to conference@weri.eu. WoTE2024 Workshop is open to both English and Turkish presentations. Submissions should include 2-3 JEL codes and keywords of the research. Authors will receive a notification by e-mail about acceptance/rejection of their submission within two weeks. Authors can not submit more than 2 papers.

    Registration

    Registrations to WoTE2023 will start on August 15, 2024. The deadline for registration to WoTE2023 is September 1, 2024. There is no registration fee for participation.

    The venue of the workshop is the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Türkiye.

    Publications

    Paper presenting authors at the WoTE2024 have the opportunity to publish their papers in in the following journals:

  • METU Studies in Development
  • World Journal of Applied Economics

    The authors willing to publish their work in the journals above must submit revised version of their papers after WoTE2024 workshop. Note that, the journals will be under no commitment to publish any article. However, they do promise an expedited refereeing process. The deadline to submit your manuscript is November 01, 2024. The authors should follow regular submission rules of the journal that can be found on the Journal’s web page.
